Directions to Thrivecraft Studio, Court Gate Cottage, Broadhempston
Court Gate is near the Coppa Dolla pub, Broadhempston, a few miles outside Totnes.
Look for a pretty, flowery path nearly opposite the far end of the Coppa Dolla car park. Rose Cottage is on one side of this path and Wisteria Cottage on the other. Walk along the path to the very end. You will see Court Gate marked on a lilac gate. Come on in and knock at the front door.
Parking is tricky, but please don’t park in the pub car park, or near anyone’s drive or doorway. A little way further on, the road widens and there is parking for four or five cars by a high wall at some barn conversions.
The two major roads for access to Broadhempston are the A381 from Totnes to Newton Abbot and the A385 from Dartington to Buckfastleigh.
From Exeter / Newton Abbot:
From the M5, take the A38 (big left fork at Kennford) towards Torquay and Newton Abbot. Follow signs for Newton Abbot, over the river Teign, to a big roundabout at Penn Inn where you take a right to Newton Abbot.
Then follow signs to Totnes through the edge of Newton Abbot (this involves a couple of left turns at junctions, but it is well signposted) and bringing you onto the A381 to Totnes.
Follow this straight road towards Totnes. Pass Fermoys garden centre on your right. A little way on you will see Clemos garage and garden centre on your left. Take the first right soon after Clemos, following signs to Ipplepen.
Go right through the village of Ipplepen and out the other side. Keep on through the lanes for a couple more miles into Broadhempston.
After the village sign for Broadhempston, take the second turning on the left, following signs for the Coppa Dolla pub.
From Totnes:
Take the Newton Abbot Road (A381) out of Totnes and past the Pig and Whistle pub. Turn left at the cross road at Redpost garage, following signs to Broadhempston. Carry on through the lanes for a few miles all the way into the village.
You will come to a T-junction at a triangle of grass on the edge of the village. Turn right and go to the end of that road to the next T-junction. Turn left then first left again, following signs for the Coppa Dolla pub.
From Dartington:
Take the A385 towards Buckfastleigh. Turn right towards Staverton Bridge (just past Huxham’s Cross). Follow the road over the bridge and railway line to the centre of Staverton. Keep on the main road past the Sea Trout Inn and out the village straight up the hill. Stay on this country road for a few more miles (it bears left soon after Staverton) until Broadhempston.
